I grew up in Colorado and have spent most of my life in the outdoors working as a rancher, shellfish farmer, and mountain guide. My greatest pleasure is producing food from the pasture, soil or sea that people can enjoy at the table. The world of wine has always interested me and while developing an oyster farm in Chile, I visited several vineyards and wineries to learn something about the craft.
In 2020 I began making wine of my own here in Colorado with the help and guidance of winemaker Patric Matysiewski of Sauvage Spectrum. Colorado is a notoriously difficult region for winemaking with hard winter cold spells that sometimes destroy the grapevines. But it is also an up-and-coming region for new styles and fantastic new vintages.
I named the wine company Open Range to reflect the wonderful feeling of the wide-open landscapes of the west and the sense of possibility those landscapes give a person. At Open Range we pay close attention to details, select the finest fruit and aim to produce the best wines possible. We hope that our wines will broaden your horizons and bring you pleasure and a taste of the west.
