This Colorado producer making Washington wines hit a home run with this Barbera. Sweet red cherries and a bowl of blueberries are joined on the nose by traces of cedar and wintergreen. Macerated raspberries drizzled with lemon juice and black pepper flavors are refreshing. Brisk acidity drives it all, with firm tannins. — Michael Alberty

This fantastic Washington wine is made by a producer in Colorado that we all need to get to know better. Earthy soil, iodine and oregano notes accompany ripe blackberry and lemon zest aromas. This wine possesses lively acidity to go along with silky tannins and a creamy texture. Cherry and espresso flavors are spiced by cardamom. — Michael Alberty

This Cabernet Sauvignon-driven blend is a fantastic value. A pretty perfume of lilacs and honeysuckle gives way to aromas of blueberries, vanilla and a new cedar chest. Blackberries and oak spice rule the palate, with traces of shortbread and smoky lapsang souchong tea. Nice acidity, with silky tannins. — Michael Alberty

This forest walk of a nose includes aromas of dried pine needles, fresh earth, blackcap raspberries and a cup of blueberries topped with vanilla-infused whipped cream. A pronounced blueberry scone flavor is joined by black coffee and cedar. The medium-bodied wine's tannins are a soft caress. — Michael Alberty

Aromatically, this Malbec is a cedar tree forest, with lesser notes of violets, cranberry-orange scone and boysenberries. The acid-driven wine has a juicy, slick texture to accompany flavors like blackberry sorbet, watermelon and coconut. I look forward to matching this with beef empanadas. — Michael Alberty

Boysenberry and cigar box aromas are accented by wee bits of violets, mint and saline. The wine's tannins are chewy, and its black cherry and lemon zest flavors hide behind a wall of balsa wood. Decanting is highly recommended. — Michael Alberty

Meet Mark Harvey | Rancher and Winemaker - Shoutout Colorado
“I really enjoy the whole process of growing things whether it’s cattle, potatoes or oysters. I’m relatively new to winemaking but I think I bring the same curiosity and desire to produce something of the highest quality to the business. I have high standards and am a bit of a stickler for the details. The brand, Open Range, reflects my history growing up in the west with horses and cattle and all that ranching involves. Read on.
